WHY RECYCLED COFFEE?
WHAT ARE USED/SPENT COFFEE GROUNDS, A.K.A. COFFEE 'WASTE' ?
At Kaffe Bueno, we are all about giving life back to what most consider waste; we recycle used coffee grounds, or technically known as Spent Coffee Grounds (SCG) to extract healthy and high value components. In short, SCG is the coffee grounds remaining after your brew. SCG is a by-product with fine particle size and high organic load. Its chemical composition is based on cellulose, hemicelluloses, proteins, fat, polyphenols, minerals and different products formed by the Maillard reaction during the roasting process, such as melanoidins. These compounds have shown several biological activities, including antiproliferative, antioxidants, and antimicrobial effects (Mariotti-Celis et al. 2017).

WHY WE JOINED B CORP?
Our initial drive to start Kaffe Bueno was to impact underserved communities [farmers] back in our home-country, Colombia, while creating innovative solutions to protect the environment. In the old days, such an organisation would have been seen as a charity, NGO, or so. However, this is not the case anymore. A growing group of for-profit companies around the world are adopting business models that address social and environmental issues; using business as a force for good. And B Corporation brings these companies together as a business community that supports one another.
Since impact is engrained in the DNA of our business model, pursuing B Corp Certification was a natural step for us. We like to surround ourselves with like-minded, forward-thinking people, who understand that profits and socio-environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive.

WHAT B CORP MEANS
FOR OUR STAKEHOLDERS
Kaffe Bueno being a B Corp means our whole supply chain has been certified to be "Bueno" [to benefit] to all of our stakeholders - from suppliers to customers to Mother Nature.
This means we have full traceability of our raw material and sustainable practices of production are verified. We're committed to be the change in the industries we play in and the communities we work with. This is why 1% of our profits are directed to educational projects for young coffee farmers back in Colombia.
