WHY RECYCLED COFFEE?
WHAT ARE USED/SPENT COFFEE GROUNDS, A.K.A. COFFEE 'WASTE' ?
At Kaffe Bueno, we are all about giving life back to what most consider waste; we recycle used coffee grounds, or technically known as Spent Coffee Grounds (SCG) to extract healthy and high value components. In short, SCG is the coffee grounds remaining after your brew. SCG is a by-product with fine particle size and high organic load. Its chemical composition is based on cellulose, hemicelluloses, proteins, fat, polyphenols, minerals and different products formed by the Maillard reaction during the roasting process, such as melanoidins. These compounds have shown several biological activities, including antiproliferative, antioxidants, and antimicrobial effects (Mariotti-Celis et al. 2017).

We use green chemistry, biotechnology, and coffee's by-product (aka coffee "waste" / spent coffee grounds / kaffegrums) as a platform to produce active and functional ingredients for cosmetics, nutraceuticals, and functional foods.
KAFFOIL and KAFFIBRE are just our first steps into unlocking coffee's full health potential. We're continuously researching and developing new products derived from lipids, proteins, sugars, polyphenols, tocopherols, antioxidants inside spent coffee grounds.

THE MIRACLE PLANT
Some people look at coffee as an energy boost, some others as a craft beverage, and some even as art. These all are great. We are just a bit different. We look at coffee as a highly underestimated miraculous plant, which potential hasn't been exploited.
So, we decided to dedicate our lives to unlock its full potential. Through continuous R&D, we will extend coffee's lifecycle until the point where every single compound inside it is being valorised for health applications.
KAFFE BUENO BIOREFINERY

We are aiming to build Scandinavia’s 1st Coffee Bio-Refinery. A place where we process different types of coffee by-products coming from industrial partners as well as from selected hotels and offices in Copenhagen.
In here, we will fractionate them into major compounds and continuously innovate on how we use them to address skin and health conditions.
